At this moment we do not have any active projects in Cambodia. In 2017 we cancelled our co-operation with local partner Chamroeun Microfinance. This organization has grown rapidly the past years and has got a more commercial focus. By doing so their objectives do not connect with the focus of Microcredit for Mothers any longer.
The co-operation with our other local partner, the Cambodia Dutch Organization, finished at the end of 2018. Together with this partner Microcredit for Mothers offered a loan to a group for buying a piece of rice-land for own consumption and for sale at the local market. However due to heavy dryness in Cambodia unfortunately the revenue was too low to sell the rice and to pay the loan back.
The last couple of years the market for microfinance in Cambodia is very saturated, meanwhile many parties have a commercial focus. It turns out to be very difficult to find new appropiate partners connected to our mission. Therefor we have chosen not to focus on finding new partners in Cambodia the coming period. Of course we will keep an eye on the developments and we do not ignore the possibilities to welcome new partners in this country in the future.
